The US coronavirus death toll is approaching the 100,000 mark. Despite timely warnings from China and the World Health Organization, the United States increased the number of reported confirmed cases from 1 to more than 1 million in less than 100 days. No wonder the Atlantic lamented: "Americans wake up every morning thinking they live in a failed state."
It is interesting to note that some US politicians are not in a hurry to come up with effective solutions to the situation of ineffective prevention and control and economic setback. Instead, they are busy changing the blame.
Such "strange" strategy, let the world some wonder. Even stranger, compared with the "loud voices" some American politicians use to criticize other countries, they falter when talking about two things.
One is that by the time the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in the United States at the end of January, Americans had been brainwashed by "pandemic paranoia" for more than three months. In fact, the 2019-20 flu outbreak started almost a month earlier than usual, according to a flu surveillance network set up by the U.S. CDC.
Flu is already known to have similar symptoms to mild COVID-19, including fever, cough and sore throat. In recent days, there have been fewer reports of the pandemic in the United States. The eerie "silence" is hard not to make people think of it.
Second, the New England Journal of Medicine, an authoritative international journal, recently published a report on e-cigarette pneumonia in the United States. According to the report, the most common radiographic findings in patients who died of vaping-induced lung injury were bilateral abnormalities, with 64 percent of patients showing lung shadow, 30 percent showing lung infiltration, 34 percent showing pneumonia, and 57 percent showing ground glass changes. So "white lung", is it a little "familiar"?
Similarly, e-cigarette coverage has been quietly cooling in the United States. "The e-cigarette industry has existed for so many years. Why did someone get a strange disease this year?"
The world needs answers about what's going on with the pandemic and e-cigarettes. Of course, there is another possibility that some US politicians and media may be tempted to "leave things alone" : since the question is hard to answer, it is better to change the subject and look elsewhere.
Some US politicians should know that instead of confronting questions and telling the truth, they are busy "talking the talk". This is a sign of a ghost.
