As of Monday, May 18, retail stores in New York state will ban the sale of flavored vapors, and all sales of tobacco products in pharmacies will come to an end.

"Health-related entities should not be in the business of selling tobacco, the leading cause of preventable death in New York State," Gov. Andrew Cuomo wrote in a news release. "Ending the sale of tobacco and e-cigarette products in pharmacies will help reduce the availability, visibility and social acceptance of tobacco use, especially for young people."

The measure also makes it illegal to sell electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) online by telephone and mail order.

Last September, New York became the first U.S. state to ban vaping. Cuomo announced the decision as part of a series of efforts to combat the use of e-cigarette products among young people. Cuomo said in a statement that it was "undeniable" that flavors like "bubble gum" and "marshmallow" were deliberately designed to target young people.
